CUSTOMER INFORMATION SHEET 

The following information is provided for you, our customer, so that you will be aware of what to expect, and to provide answers to some frequently asked questions. 

 Contract Singing: Sales Rep will schedule measure time (NOTE:  Please notate this date on your calendar so you can be there, and so there won't be a delay in starting your job!) 

MEASUREMENT: Operations Manager will arrive on scheduled date and time and perform the following:               

1) Measure windows/doors/siding, etc.

2) Go over contract/scope of job with you.

3) Schedule installation date. 

INSTALLATION:

1)     Most window installations happen in 4 to 6 weeks.  We try hard to avoid delays, but unfortunately, things are not always predictable with construction.  ***We will notify you of any impending delays as expediently as possible depending upon the nature of the delay.   Please keep in mind the following possible causes for delays on your project:        

a. Inclement weather. 

b. Measuring errors 

c. Unforeseen damages/repairs not visible until removal of old windows 

d. Necessity for special order material (Special order products can delay installation anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks.) 

 e. Complications on the job 

2)  Installation crew will usually arrive on scheduled date between 9:00 and 9:30AM. 

3)  Work on most jobs takes 1 to 3 days; siding jobs can take longer. 

4)  Occasionally there will be minor touch-up work needed for paint or caulking on new or old woodwork, which will be the customer's responsibility.  On the occasion that we are covering the outside of the windows, Taylors Window & Screen will finish the wood casing on the outside perimeter of the windows, thereby leaving no exterior maintenance for the customer on sashes or frames, other than exterior routine cleaning and possible re-caulking due to the natural aging process of the caulking material. 

5) COMPLETION OF INSTALLATION:  When installers have completed the job, they will contact you for a walk around inspection, during which they will explain operation and maintenance procedures to you.  After your inspection, they will have you sign a completion form, ask for your final payment, and then give you your warranty.  This by no means releases Taylors Window & Screen from responsibility for future issues that might arise.  Any issues after installation are to be turned into our warranty department at 271-9759, or 1-888-259-9546, Ext. 15.  ***IMPORTANT:  Please send in your warranty card and write your Order ID# (found in head of window where top sash goes in) on it. 

ISSUES OFTEN FOUND AFTER INSTALLATION: 

• Condensation on Glass: Taylors Window & Screen warranties condensation between the insulated glass panes. Condensation on the inside or outside of the window is not covered by warranty and is explained further below.
• Operational Tightness: Vinyl is a pliable product, and it is normal for it to expand and contract with seasonal temperature changes. During expansion and contraction periods, it may be necessary to hold the top sash completely up while pushing down the bottom sash and locking to get them to meet.

CONDENSATION

What is Condensation?  Condensation is the fog that suddenly appears in cold weather on the glass of your windows or sliding doors. 

What Causes Window Condensation?  Window condensation is the result of excess humidity in your home.  It usually occurs first on windows because glass surfaces have the lowest temperature of any of the interior surfaces in the house.  When the warm moist air comes into contact with the cooler glass surfaces, the moisture condenses.  FOGGY WINDOWS AND DOORS ARE WARNING SIGNS THAT HUMIDITY COULD BE DAMAGING YOUR HOME! 

What Is Humidity and Where Does It Come From?  Humidity is moisture, or water vapor, in the air.  Any number of things will generate indoor moisture:  humidifiers, heating systems, plants.  Cooking 3 meals a day adds four or five pints of water to the air.  Each shower contributes ½ pint.  Every activity that uses water adds moisture to the air.  Also, sharp, quick drops in temperature can create temporary condensation problems during the heating season.  HIGH INDOOR HUMIDITY CREATES CONDENSATION. 

Why, If My Old Windows Did Not Have Condensation, Do My New Windows Have It Now?  One of the reasons you probably replaced your old windows was because they were drafty, and when the wind wasn't blowing in, those slight cracks allowed excessive humidity to escape to the outdoors.  Now that your windows are tight, that excess humidity that is already in your house is unable to escape, and therefore, it is showing itself on the glass.  This is your first indication that you have too much humidity in your home. 

Does Condensation Occur More Often In Particular Climates or Types of Homes?  Absolutely!  Condensation is more apt to occur in climates where the average January temperature is 35°F or colder because there will be greater extremes between indoor and outdoor temperatures affecting the glass surfaces in the home.  DURING THE SUMMER AND FALL, ALL PARTS OF A HOUSE PICK UP MOISTURE FROM DAMP AIR.  IN THE FALL, WHEN THE WINDOWS ARE CLOSED AND HEAT IS TURNED ON, THIS MOISTURE WILL PASS INTO THE AIR OF THE HOUSE AND FOR A WEEK OR TWO THERE IS LIKELY TO BE CONDENSATION. 

Do Drapes and Window Shades Cause Window Condensation?  Drapes and window coverings don't cause window condensation, but they can contribute to the problem by restricting the flow of warm room air over the glass surface.  Therefore, condensation is more apt to occur when drapes are closed and shades can contribute to the problem even more. 

Are There Any Cases Where Window Condensation Is Only Temporary?  Yes, primarily three:  1) New construction or remodeling, 2) The beginning of each heating season, and 3) Quick changes in temperature. 

Will it Reduce The Humidity In My Home During Winter Help Control Condensation?  Eliminate the excessive humidity, and you will eliminate most - possibly all - the condensation. 

 How Can I Reduce The Humidity In My Home?  Control the sources of moisture and increase ventilation.  As a temporary solution, open a window in each room for just a few minutes, allowing stale, humid air to escape, and fresh air to enter.  Vent all gas burners, clothes dryers, etc., to the outdoors.  Install kitchen and bathroom exhaust fans.  Concentrate all houseplants in one sunny room and avoid over-watering.  Keep basements dry, and make sure attic vents are open and obstructed.   

REMEMBER...WINDOWS DO NOT CAUSE CONDENSATION!!
